Following discectomies in 1980 & 1990, I had reoccuring back pain as a result of falling. Dr. Sherman of the Low Back Pain Clinic in Minneapolis performed back fusion with BAK titanium cage and healos on 8/21/2000. At this time (10/27/2000), my pain level is worse than pre-surgery. It seemed to improve for awhile but now for the last two weeks has gotten worse. The doctor suggested wearing a brace but it has not helped.I am one of 260 people in the U.S. who volunteered for this study. One-half received healos and the other half received autograft bone from their hip. The autograft bone recipients are the control group. My follow-up appointment will be November 10th and I still don't know how long my recovery will be. At this time, I still have leg pain, lower back pain, prickling toes similar to before surgery. I am looking forward to an improvement, but it seems to be a long recovery.
