Dear Mr. Lawyer,

While I respect your opposition to SB 220,I am
concerned that readers of your comments posted on
March 10, 1999, will come away misunderstanding
the bill.

SB 220 is not sponsored by SAIF or Liberty Northwest.
It was introduced by the Department of Consumer and
Business Services.

In addition, it absolutely DOES NOT take away injured
workers' rights to talk to the Workers' Compensation
Ombudsman. That is incorrect. In fact, our budget for
the next biennium include TWO ADDITIONAL positions for
the Ombudsman's Office to help injured workers resolve
their problems. You can verify that with the Ombudsman's
Office if you wish.

For your readers who would like to read the bill
for themselves, they can log on to ,
click on "Legislature" and follow the links to Senate
Bills until they reach SB 220.

Tom Mattis, Deputy Administrator
Workers' Compensation Division
