Derfler in Business

1952-81 -- Owner of NICO Furniture and Appliance; Built business from $90,000 in sales and two employees in 1951 to $5.2 million in sales and 50 employees in 1981. The business was sold to Smith's Home Furnishings in 1981.

Rumor has it that Derfler was caught as a non-compliant employer (An employee was injured on-the-job but wasn't insured by a workers comp policy. The problem is that when it was looked into it appears the injury (maybe two) disappeared from state records. Derfler has claimed publicly that he put a couple injured employees through college so why aren't there records anywhere!! If he did get caught breaking the law it would explain why he's out to destroy the lives of any Oregonian who gets injured. Perhaps someone out there can uncover these "conveniently vanishing records".
