One could make the case that yes, people elect these "scum who betray the human race with their personal greed", but these political scum control the political process due to the graf thrown their way under the dillusion that it's campaign donations, etc. When a candidate outspends his opponent by alot of money it's rare that he/she will lose.
Studies have shown that a majority of Americans want publicly financed campaigns yet nothing happens at the Federal or State level because this would balance the odds somewhat for challengers for public office.
In other words Ed, your comment "corrupt politicians are elected by popular vote" is overly simplistic which I've come to expect from a simpleton like you. Oh, by the why; The U.S. President is elected by the Electoral College.
