Regarding fraud, the latest issue of Workers' News on Workers' Comp (my newsletter) features some research on convictions on fraud by SAIF: "Twenty convictions, out of what, 20 to 30 THOUSAND
claims per year. That's an annualized fraud conviction rate of about one-tenth of one percent." You can link to my newsletter from the WI home page. If this isn't enough evidence that worker fraud is blown way out of proportion, consider the latest numbers from the Department of Consumer and Business Services (link below): out of almost 100,000 accepted claims in 1998, there were 69 complaints received by DCBS about "collecting benefits when able to work," and 3 for "fraudulent claim."
