Jury rules AT&T negligent for worker injury.

A jury has awarded $550,000 to an employee of an AT&T subcontractor after ruling the telecommunications company was negligent for an injury he suffered.

In a unanimous verdict, a Multnomah County Circuit Court jury found that AT&T had failed to warn cable installer Marshall Porter of the potential danger when a safety line designed to support a 5,000-pound load was replaced with a temporary line unable to handle the load.

Porter suffered a serious injury to his hip when the line broke while he was working on a cable connection at a home in Scappoose in March 2002. Porter was employed by TSSI, a now defunct subcontractor of AT&T.
