Are settlements taxed?

Postby kisscircus » September 14th, 2005, 11:55 pm

I live in Massachusetts and can't seem to find info on whether WC settlements in my state are taxed.
I have been living a WC nightmare for 2 years. I am about to receive a pitiful lump sum settlement . The paralegal at my attorney's office says that although she thinks that WC settlements are tax-free, that I should consult with a tax specialist.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!
