I found this at the NY injuredworker site.
In the book "Corporate Preditors-The Hunt for Mega Profits and the Attack on Democracy"” (Common Courage Press, 1999), the authors write: "For the last decade...Corporate America has engineered a nationwide campaign to undermine workers' compensation systems across the country. From California to New York, Maine to Oregon, Alaska to Texas, Big Business has succeeded in pitting states against each other in a workers' compensation race to the bottom. The corporate jig may now be up. By a 57 to 43 percent margin, Ohio voters on Nov.4, 1997 defeated a referendum on legislation that would have gutted the state's workers compensation system."
In Ohio, business interests outspent labor 10 million to 3 million with a barrage of TV ads. Labor, the voters, the "constituents" won big.
