The state AFL-CIO's "Weekly Update" notes that federal "OSHA’s West Coast hearings on its proposed ergonomic protections for workers starts on Monday, April 24, in Portland, with testimony from the Oregon AFL-CIO, the Washington State Labor Council, AFSCME, SEIU, Painters District Council No. 5, and TCIU. Representatives of fourteen other international unions and several injured worker groups will testify over a period of two weeks.... We have previously reported that we would rally on Monday, April 24th in support of OSHA adoption of an ergonomics standard. Instead of a rally, we plan to do a press event at a downtown Portland grocery store at the same time - 7:30 AM. Speakers will include several injured workers. But we also need folks to hold placards representing the numbers of workers who suffer back injuries, wrist injuries, elbow injuries, and other debilitating conditions as a result of poorly engineered work. Call Lynn-Marie Crider at 503-585-6320 for more information. |

Posted At 23:49:45 04/15/2000 IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE FROM WASHINGTON STATE??? I AM ON A DISABILITY AND I CAN NOT BELIEVE WHAT A NIGHTMARE THIS IS. I AM STILL RECEIVING CHECKS FROM L&I/SELF-INSURED, BUT I KNOW MY DAYS ARE NUMBERED.HAD MY FIRST IME WITH THE WHORES SO NOW THE INJUSTICE BEGINS!!! I WORK AS A CHECKER AND I CAN TELL YOU , BEING IN THE BUSINESS 22 YEARS, NOTHING HAS IMPROVED TO BENEFIT THE WORKERS. IN FACT I THINK THE CHECKSTANDS HAVE GOTTEN WORSE. I'VE BEEN IN ENOUGH OF THEM TO FEEL I AM QUALIFIED IN MAKING THAT STATEMENT!! WE ALL NEED TO WORK TOGETHER AND GET OSHA'S ASS IN GEAR AND DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE. THE EMPLOYER DOES'NT CARE ABOUT "OUR INJURIES", just as long as there's a "body to vover the shift", SO WE ALL NEED TO WRITE LETTERS, AND I HAVE, TO CONGRESS, THE SENATE, ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO HAS ANY KIND OF POWER TO MAYBE MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND SEE OUR SIDE. WE CANNOT BE INTIMIDATED BY THIS SYSTEM ANYMORE...TOO MANY LIVES HAVE LITERALLY BEEN DETROYED THROUGH THEIR INSANITY AND GREED. REMEMBER...STRONGER IN NUMBERS!!! LYNDA-PEARL |
