Sanctioned Washington Doctors (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 13:33:58 06/28/2000 16,638 Questionable Doctors The listings below are of doctors in Washington State. Depending on the medical board, state or federal the time frame varies considerable. Some like the Washington State Board of Osteopatic Medicine sent them for 1991-1996. The Washington Medical Board is from 1987-1996. The Medicare/Medicaid programs, the FDA, and the DEA don't include dates. Oregon's policy is allow doctors who are under investigation to surrender their licenses in lieu of further investigation and then labeling these surrenders "not a disciplinary action." In other words they won't be listed anywhere for the public to see. They say that a reactivation request will reopen the investigation, but we've been told that these records are destroyed every couple years, and lets face it, the trail would be cold at that point anyways. JUST REMEMBER THAT MEDICAL BOARDS EXIST FOR THE DOCTOR AND NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE PUBLIC. IT'S THE WOLF GUARDING THE HEN HOUSE SITUATION. IN MOST STATES, THESE AGENCIES DON'T CHECK DOCTORS BACKGOUNDS, THEY SIMPLY TAKE THE DOCTORS WORD THAT THEY HAVEN'T BEEN DISCIPLINED ELSEWHERE. THE OREGON BOARD OF MEDICAL EXAMINERS DOES NOT CHECK. Public Citizen, founded by Ralph Nader, puts this out. Regional books, mine is Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, are about $20. The Web site is at http://www.questionabledoctors.org/ It appears they're about to release a 2000 edition JUST BECAUSE YOU RECOGNIZE A NAME DOESN'T MEAN IT'S THE SAME DOCTOR. PRACTICING IN OREGON WE HAVE TWO CATHLEEN L FARRIS'S. ONE IS PROBABLY A FINE DOCTOR. THE OTHER, WHO LIVES IN CAMAS, WA, AND THE LAST TIME I CHECKED, DID ONLY IME'S. SHE IS A MAJOR MEDICAL WHORE FOR INSURANCE COMPANIES. Posted At 13:52:38 06/28/2000 P.S. Oregon only list 33 doctors (8-89 through 12-96)which should tell you something compared to the numbers in Washington. It not like our population is THAT much smaller by percentage. I guess the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners is just better at covering up for bad doctors. Oregon Board of Medical Examiners Kathleen Haley, JD, Executive Director 620 Crown Plaza 1500 SW First Ave. Portland, OR 97201-5826 (503) 229-5770 According to the Federation of State Medical Boards, Oregon took 29 SERIOUS disciplinary actions against MDs and DOs in 1996 alone. Makes you wonder why only 33 were given by OBME for 6+ years. |

Posted At 14:18:03 06/28/2000 Ok! This is the last posting today. As you can see Oregon has dropped steadily during the 90's in Rankings of Serious Doctor Disciplinary Actions By State Medical Licensing Boards. Also remember that Oregon officials like to manipulate data to their political advantage (the huge WC premium decreases during the 90's don't include rebates during those years) so Oregon is probably a lot lower in the barrel. The lower the number the better. 1998 Rank 31 1997 Rank 28/29 1996 Rank 29 (Oops!, they came back from the paid 52 wk vacation) 1995 Rank 16 (Was the regular staff replaced by temps for the year?) 1994 Rank 20 1993 Rank 22/23 1992 Rank 24 1991 Rank 14 These were found at http://www.citizen.org/hrg/PUBLICATIONS/1478.htm |
