Oregon government has changed the initials IME to now represent "Insurance Medical Exam". It took them decades to give these letters an honest name. The phrase "Independent Medical Exam" was insulting and a blatant misrepresentation of reality.
Nothing else has changed though. An IME, which usually lasts for an hour or less, is given equal weight of law to the injured workers' own regularly seen physician in court and before the Oregon Workers' Compensation Board.
We at IWA have decided that we too can live in a "fantasy world" and shall keep using the name "Independent Medical Exam" which is what most people still call them out of habit.
